This week, Headway Kent was delighted to attend the annual Headway Network Day in Birmingham, alongside some of 100 other local Headway groups from across the UK.
The event offered an excellent opportunity for connection and collaboration, with workshops on fundraising, artificial intelligence, and presentations from various groups showcasing their services, successes, and future plans.
While each Headway group is unique — differing in size, structure, and local focus — the day reinforced a powerful shared message: we are all dedicated to providing a safe and supportive space for adults living with brain injury and their families.
One of the strongest take-home messages from the day was that we make decisions with our members, not for them. Every Headway group can be described as loud, safe, warm, and filled with trust. Headway is a community where everyone belongs, contributes, and matters — a place where lived experience shapes everything we do.
It was also an honest reflection on the challenges facing local charities today. Many groups, including ours, are experiencing financial pressures due to funding cuts and increasing fundraiser fatigue. Despite this, the spirit of collaboration and the strength of the Headway network remain strong.
As independent charities affiliated to Headway – the Brain Injury Association, we are proud to be part of a national community that supports and advocates for those affected by brain injury, working together to improve lives and raise awareness.
Together is better
