Supporting Social Work Student Learning at Our Thanet Hub

Date: 26th September 2025

We were delighted to welcome Lucy, a Think Ahead Social Work Student from the Ramsgate Community Team, to our Thanet Hub for a full day of shadowing and learning.

Lucy spent the day gaining valuable insight into the work we do supporting individuals affected by brain injury. She observed how our team provides rehabilitation, social opportunities, and tailored support to help members regain independence and confidence.

Why Student Placements Are Important

At Headway Kent we believe it is essential for social work students to experience a varied learning environment during their training. Exposure to brain injury services allows future social workers to:

  • Understand the impact of brain injury on daily life
  • Learn about available support networks and referral pathways
  • Build confidence in working with individuals with complex needs
  • Develop practical skills that will shape their professional practice

Helping Students Build Knowledge and Confidence

Our members thoroughly enjoyed Lucy’s visit and were eager to share their lived experiences with her. Opportunities like this benefit both students and the individuals we support — fostering mutual understanding and helping future professionals appreciate the importance of person-centred care.
