On Saturday, we were delighted to be part of the Rotary Club of Dover’s annual Duck Race at the beautiful Kearsney Abbey. This wonderful community event raised vital funds for local good causes, with the proceeds being shared between 10 charities – including Headway Kent. We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club for their generosity and commitment to supporting charities across the area.
Our stand was packed with information about acquired brain injury (ABI) and the services Headway Kent offers across the county. Visitors could learn about our local groups, support sessions, and rehabilitation activities. We also made sure there was plenty for children and families to enjoy, including:
🧠 An interactive brain activity to match everyday actions (like hearing or running) to different parts of the brain
🗣️ A hands-on communication challenge, showing how difficult it can feel for some brain injury survivors just to say simple words
👷 “Hats for Jobs” with hard hats to highlight how the brain is protected at work
🚴 A real cycle helmet that showed the difference it made in protecting someone’s brain during a fall
🎨 Brain craft packs and a design your own bike helmet colouring competition
🎈 Balloons, sweets, bubble machine, and cool packs for your head – and plenty more fun activities!
The day was full of laughter, learning, and community spirit. We were thrilled to meet so many families and individuals who were keen to know more about brain injury and the ways they can help protect and support their own brain health.
If you’d like us to bring our Brain Road Show to your school, community group, or workplace, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch at 📧 info@headwaykent.org.
We’re so thankful to everyone who visited our stand and to the Rotary Club of Dover for including Headway Kent in such a fantastic event.
