Headway Kent to Use New My Brain Star Tool to Support Brain Injury Recovery

Headway UK has announced the launch of My Brain Star — a brand-new, evidence-based keywork and outcomes measurement tool designed specifically for people recovering from an acquired brain injury (ABI). Following a successful two-year development period and national pilot we are delighted to confirm that Headway Kent will be using this innovative resource to support our clients.   

What is My Brain Star?

Developed in partnership with Outcomes Star, this unique tool is designed for use during the ongoing recovery phase, after the initial acute hospital treatment has ended. It focuses on holistic, one-to-one support — looking at all aspects of life after brain injury, not just medical recovery.

The Star covers nine evidence-based outcome areas, each following a clearly defined Journey of Change. These areas help us to work with clients in a structured, collaborative way, identifying progress, setting realistic goals, and creating a personalised support plan that reflects each person’s needs and aspirations.                                                                                                                

Why Headway Kent Will Be Using It

At Headway Kent, we believe in giving our clients the very best tools to support their rehabilitation and independence. By using My Brain Star, we can:

• Have better conversations – The Star makes it easier to talk about challenges and progress in a positive, structured way.

• Create tailored recovery plans – Together with each client, we’ll identify their priorities and agree achievable next steps.

• Track and celebrate progress – The visual Star format allows us to clearly see how far someone has come and where to focus next.

• Use data to improve our services – Built-in reporting tools will help us monitor outcomes across our community, ensuring our support remains effective and responsive.

Digital and Accessible

Through Star Online, the tool’s secure digital platform, we’ll be able to access resources, complete Stars collaboratively on-screen, and instantly record and report progress. This means we can easily share progress updates with clients, families, and professionals — making rehabilitation more transparent and empowering.

A Proven Approach

My Brain Star is part of a family of over 50 different Outcomes Star tools, used across the UK and internationally in health, social care, and community services. Each Star is evidence-based, co-developed with professionals and people with lived experience, and rigorously tested to ensure its reliability as both a support and measurement tool.
