Based inside Harpers Café, our Ashford Community Hub is more than just a location—it’s a place of warmth, support, and shared understanding for adults living with acquired brain injury (ABI) across Kent.
Located in the beautiful surroundings of Victoria Park, the hub offers a calm, modern space where people can access vital brain injury support services in an environment that’s bright, friendly, and inclusive. Whether it's a group session, 1:1 support, or just a chat over a cuppa, Harpers Café provides the perfect setting—and they always look after us with plenty of teas, coffees, and kindness!
Being in Victoria Park also has its perks: the atmosphere is peaceful, the views are lovely, and everyone enjoys seeing the stream of happy dogs passing by with their owners or popping into the café.
The Ashford hub is led by the wonderful Sharon and Carole (Sharon is in the photo and Carole must be camera shy!) —two of Headway Kent’s longest-serving and most dedicated staff members. Helen, our newest member of staff, will often make a guest appearance too. With years of experience supporting people affected by brain injury, they bring compassion, humour, and deep understanding to everything they do.
At the hub, Sharon and Carole:
Deliver tailored rehabilitation sessions to help with memory, communication, and confidence
Run peer support and activity groups
Offer carer advice and emotional support
Provide signposting and help navigating post-injury life
Their work helps people rebuild not just skills—but identity, purpose, and connection.
The Ashford Community Hub is just a 13-minute walk from Ashford International train station, making it easily accessible for those able to walk. And for anyone not sure how to get there—just drop us a message and we’ll help guide you or call us at our head office on 01227 864116.
Sharon and Carole don’t just support people at the hub—they’re also out in the community sharing brain injury awareness and education.
This week, we joined Ashford Borough Council’s Eat Well Roadshow at Victoria Park. For more info about these events follow this link: https://www.ashford.gov.uk/cost-of-living-help/support-from-ashford-borough-council/eat-well-spend-less-and-wellbeing-roadshow/
Sharon was at our stall outside Harpers Café chatting with visitors about the support Headway Kent provides. We also showcased our new interactive brain activity board, helping children learn which parts of the brain control movement, sight, hearing and more. And of course, our mascot Boki the brain-injured bear came along too!
If you’re running a local community event and would like Headway Kent to attend, we’d love to hear from you. Sharon and Carole are always happy to represent us in the community, raising awareness and offering advice. Just drop us an email: info@headwaykent.org
